The sea can be blue, green or grey. Thierry De Cordier proves that the (North)sea can also be black, black as the night. He shows that with his overwhelming works in this year's Biennale in Venice.
It takes some time before you notice that the big black canvases represent the sea, seen from within the sea itself. The water is like a mountain surrounding you, the viewer, the swimmer, trying not to drown. You can see the top, very near, too near. A spate of water is ready to engulf you. Nevertheless you keep on viewing.
Fascinating work!
